'We play anything' format is back on radio

The music format of playing a variety of music, not just one type such as country, rock or oldies, is back to Kankakee, Iroquois and Will counties.
Newsweb Radio Company, the owners of 92.7 WKIF in Kankakee, unveiled "We play anything" on 92.7 FM on Dec. 19, replacing the previous format of CNN Headline News.
"We wanted to give Kankakee County and the surrounding area a great music station that appeals to a variety of listeners," said Harvey Wells, vice president and group station manager of Newsweb Radio Company. "We play anything on 99.9 had a lot of listeners in the area when we made a change in October that took the format off the air. Many people wanted the music back, so we listened to them and were able to do it."
We play anything on 92.7 delivers an eclectic mix of well-known songs from virtually all musical genres -- pop, rock, country, soul, R&B, modern rock, hip-hop and one-hit wonders. 92.7FM doesn't limit its playlist to a specific era. There's music from the '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s and today.
"This is a great example of giving what listeners want," said Brendan Olszewski, operations and sales manager for 92.7 WKIF. "Everyone at Newsweb Radio made the format switch possible, especially Joe McArdle, Gavin Carroll, Mike McCarthy, Blane Webster and London LeGrand. We hope everyone enjoys the music as much as we do."
WKIF is a 3,000 watt frequency that covers all of Kankakee County and large portions of Iroquois and Will counties along with parts of Indiana. The office is located at 292 N. Convent St. in Bourbonnais and has a broadcast tower on the west side of Kankakee.
