WFLD names Carol Fowler news boss
WFLD-Ch. 32 today named Carol Fowler, ousted as news director at CBS-owned WBBM-Ch. 2 in November after six years, the Fox-owned station's new vice president and news director, effective Feb. 2.
Andrew Finlayson, who has been in charge of Channel 32's news for the last three years, will be named director of online content and business development for the Fox Television Stations group.
Fowler was removed from her WBBM post a month after the man who brought her to Channel 2, Joe Ahern, was himself replaced by Mark "Bruno" Cohen with marching orders to get the station out of the doldrums in which it has been stuck for years.
Fowler had come to WBBM in 2002 after overseeing the news operation at Chicago Tribune parent Tribune Co.'s WGN-Ch. 9, which continues to beat WFLD's newscast at 9 p.m., despite Fox Broadcasting delivering Channel 32 a stronger lead-in audience than the CW delivers Channel 9.
