Although it was a private, graveside funeral (at Waldheim Jewish Cemetery in Forest Park), Eddie no doubt would have been pleased by the large turnout. It began at high noon, the sun was shining, and it was unseasonably warm for early February. Eddie was eulogized by his brother Hal (who read from the tributes and many of the postings online from listeners and fans) and by Rabbi Aron Wolf, the Fire Department chaplain who officiated at the service. Pall bearers included Rob Feder, Mitch Rosen, Dave Baum and Chef Hans. They carried him from the hearse to the gravesite in a modest wooden casket in keeping with Orthodox Jewish tradition. Other mourners present included Eric Zorn, Bruce DuMont, Dean Richards, Steve King & Johnnie Putman, Jan Coleman, Wendy Snyder, Bruce Wolf, Tom Langmyer and Ald. Bernard Stone.
Eddie was remembered for his good work and humanitarian efforts. His brother recalled that whenever Eddie became aware of an injustice, he felt compelled to act. The rabbi said his legacy will live on in all of us when we try to do good for others and help out the less fortunate.
Eddie was buried nearby his half-sister, who died about six months ago. He never made it to her funeral because of his illness. Now may he rest in peace too.
