Dale was a real firecracker. I also remember how kind he was to this then 24-year old nervous, cub traffic reporter. I remember being in awe of him when I started at WBBM back in 1989. A class act and the true definition of "newsman". Thank you for the encouragement, Dale. Thank you even more for making me strive to become something even better. You will be missed.

: I worked with Dale at WBBM Newsradio for 14 years. Dale was literally one of the first people I met when I came to work at CBS in 1979. He was a radio professional, a bon vivant, and a true "man about town". Dale loved news, he understood the world, he read voraciously, and always felt we needed to do as much as possible to expose our listeners to what was going on in the world. He was a real student of world affairs, an avid yachtsman, and a guy who was always concerned with the new kids in the newsroom. And he was a very funny guy! Dale McCarren was a giant part of the history of WBBM Newsradio, one of America's great radio stations. And we shall all miss him.
