Longtime Morning-Drive Anchor Dale McCarren Dies

Don Schuble Reporting

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Newsradio 780 has lost one of our own longtime morning-drive anchor, Dale McCarren, died today, following a long illness.

McCarren was one of the first morning-drive anchors when Newsradio 780 was born on May Fifth, 1968.

He moved to Chicago from Detroit, and was one of the last staff announcers for the CBS Radio Network.

During his long career here, he also worked for WBBM-FM for a period of time, which had a light music format. (He was the staff announcer there.)

As his career advanced with WBBM, Dale became the primary morning-drive anchor, and then was teamed up with WBBM's John Hultman and Sherman Kaplan.

Later on, Dale moved to the evening shift, where he eventually retired after 32 years.
