Steve Harvey Advises Women To 'Think Like A Man'

CHICAGO (CBS) - Ladies, a new book explains everything you need to know about men - and it's not coming from a psychologist.
Thursday, Steve Harvey was in Chicago signing copies of his new book, "Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man."
As CBS 2's Pamela Jones shows us, the goal is to show women how to avoid "being played."
Harvey is offering his radio relationship advice in the hands of women everywhere in his new book.
"We are nothing like you," Harvey says. "You keep applying your thought process to people who don't think anything like you."
This bestseller digs deep into the male mindset and outlines how a man's love isn't like a woman's.
Women may start a relationship thinking "Love and Marriage," as the song goes, but for men it's more like "Let's Get It On."
"When we first see you across the room and we walk over there and introduce ourselves, why do you think we came over there?" Harvey says.
And one way to keep that attention: Let the man take over some of the bills and responsibilities.
"It allows him to put his cape on and be Superman," Harvey said. "And that's all it takes sometimes. See, we respond to requirements."
Requirements like waiting 90 days before sex. Harvey calls it "passing out the cookie."
"They think if I keep passing out cookie, he'll get emotionally attached," he said. "Not to your cookie -- he's going to get attached to you."
So what do real couples think about Steve Harvey's principles? We brought his book out to the people of Chicago to find out.
We found a couple picking up a marriage license for a Saturday wedding.
What about the 90-day wait?
"Honestly, I think it's really smart, because otherwise, you rush into things and you don't get a chance to really know the person," Chezik Walker said.
"I can tell you this much, we would not be getting married if she had forced me to wait 90 days before she gave up the cookie, as you said," her partner said.
Women walking downtown told us they agree with a lot of the book, including the part that suggests men seek sex first.
"I think they're out for one thing, but it's how you go about getting that one thing," one woman said.
Harvey says men live to protect and provide for the women in their live, and women need to recognize that. You can hear what Harvey thinks about dating and marriage drama weekdays on his "strawberry letters" radio segment.
