This has been talked about to death on this board, since WLS first dropped local news and traffic on weekends back in October.
To put it bluntly, WLS doesn't make much money from their weekend programming. As with any station, the bread and butter is M-F 6 a.m. - 6 p.m., at the very least. They are doing very well in that spot, so dropping local news and traffic has not hurt them one bit. Yes, I think it's lame, but that's the way it is. WLS, at this point, has no incentive to bring back weekend local news and traffic.
: Those weather segments are produced by The Weather Channel down in Atlanta and are clearly taped much earlier in the day. More than once, the forecast has included "today" and "sunshine" when neither word is appropriate in the context of the current day when it's 10 pm!
: Clearly, no one is at the switch anymore.
: : I noticed the last several Sunday evenings, (perhaps on Saturdays also,I wasn't listening)
: : WLS no longer includes any local news update
: : with it's twice an hour national news break.
: : They play a pre-recorded weather forecast
: : (who knows if the weather has changed since
: : the recording) but no local news update,
: : not even a pre-recorded one from the news service that they used to employ. The city could
: : be under siege but WLS 'NEWS/TALK' would
: : be the last place one would find out about
: : it.
