Webio spending money to travel with teams

Name the only sports talk radio station in town that sent a team to follow the Hawks on the road during their playoff series with Calgary, Vancouver, and now Detroit, and with the Bulls in Boston?

If you said, WSCR-AM 670 or WMVP-AM 1000, you're wrong.

The answer is chicagosportswebio.com.

Guess when you're new, you've got to try harder. At a time when most stations won't send a reporter across the street, the Internet sports talk outlet has staffed Chicago teams on the road throughout the entire postseason.

Webio has five people in Detroit for the Hawks series with the Red Wings. Jonathan Hood and Tim Doyle are doing their midday show live from Detroit, while George Ofman is working as an on-site reporter. They are joined by station manager Jesse Roger and producer Steve Goff.

Meanwhile, WMVP has one reporter in Detroit, jumping on the Hawks' bandwagon for the first time, while SCR remains on the sidelines.

Give Webio props for being there. Here's the return on their investment.

They noticed Hawks forward Martin Havlet limping around the hotel and went on the air immediately with the news. They also had on-site guests, including Hawks players, on the midday show.

"We're trying to show people if something big is happening in Chicago sports, we're going to be there," said Mr. Rogers.
