: We all know the Emergency Alert System that they test about 7 times a day on each station. When exactly do they use it? It seems to me that today's tornado warnings should have merited some kind of use of this, instead of a little "weather in the area" mention between two traffic reports and a commercial. Anyone know what the policy is?

Listen to 103.5 their EAS has always gone off automaticly both for state tests and tornado warnings.

Chicago is piss poor on both TV and radio when it comes to severe weather alerts.

Up here in Wisconsin, we were flooded with T-Storm and Tornado warnings last night. It was so bad many stations actually got knocked off the air.

When there is a severe thunderstorm warning stations usually just have the DJ say it. The NextMedia Kenosha stations (WIIL for example), WVCY (a Christian station) and Milwaukee's K-Love station WKMZ let the EAS handle everything. A warning is issued, the EAS goes off automaticly.

Most of the major stations only let the EAS go off for Tornado warnings.

WIIL and its counterpart let it go off for T-Storm Warnings and Tornado Warnings. In this case even though they target Illinois their EAS goes off for Wisconsin counties and are connected with the Wisconsin state EAS, and they get their EAS from the Milwaukee primary station WTMJ.

If you want to hear the EAS go off I would highly suggest trying K-Love 94.3. WKMZ in Milwaukee (K-Love) the EAS went off automaticly for T-Storm Warnings, Tornado Warnings and even a flash flood warning (Never heard the EAS go off for a flash flood warning)
